What The Hell Are You Talking About?

I was just perusing Jay Hinman's (of the departed, quality zine 'Superdope') blog, 'Agony Shorthand' (www.agonyshorthand.blogspot.com), where I came across a review of The Hunches new record, 'Hobo Sunrise'. I enjoy said record quite a bit, and am of the opinion The Hunches are head and shoulders over pretty much any contemporary outfit going. Especially two other bands Hinman lauds a few posts later, The Modey Lemon and The Fiery Furnaces. In his bizarre, schizophrenic review, Hinman states:

"I get the feeling that these gentlemen are trying a little harder to make themselves legendary than their young-buck talent yet allow."

Yeah, that's the problem with bands these days, always trying to make themselves legendary. Shit! The nerve on those Hunches! Next time, Chris, Hart, Sara, Ben - try to make yourselves forgettable. In fact, don't try too hard, aim low. That's where great records come from, you know? When a band is not even trying to make a quality recording or just kind of skipping over the whole 'songwriting' and 'performance' aspect, greatness ensues.
